Shimla Celebrates – 150 Years of Summer Capital, would be organized in Shimla, the summer capital of British rule, for the whole year. A national level theatre festival, mythological ballets, film festival and display of Army bands will be the main attractions of the celebrations.
Officials of Language, Art and Culture, shared that a national-level theatre festival will be organized on the occasion of the birth anniversary of famous theatre personality late Manohar Singh. Plays by Neelam Mansingh, Rattan Thiem, Naseeruddin Shah, Waman Kendre and plays by National School of Drama would also be presented during the programme.
Theatre Film Festivals to mark 150 years of Shimla
A state level theatre festival will be organized from March 21 to 27 to commemorate World Theatre Day on March 27, wherein select theatre groups from Himachal Pradesh will present their plays.
Department of language, art and culture in collaboration with department of tourism and Shri Ram Bharatiya Kala Kendra, Delhi will present mythological ballets Karan, Durga and Meera on May 23, 24 and 25 respectively. A film festival in collaboration with Union ministry of information and broadcasting will be organized from June 18 to 25, she said.
A programme based on national integration will be the highlight on Independence Day. North Zone Cultural Centre and other departments of the state government would associate to present a bouquet of programmes on national integration comprising symposia, Rashtriya Bhakti Kavi Sammelan and Hasya Kavi Sammelan. On August 30 and 31, mythological ballet Krishna would be presented by Shri Ram Bharatiya Kala Kendra, Delhi.
A Shimla music festival would be held from September 21 to October 4 by language, art and culture department in collaboration with department of tourism and Punjabi Academy. The Christmas and New Year festivities would entertain residents of Shimla and tourists from December 25 to January 1, 2015. Folk dance music would be the main attraction of the programme.
In the months of May, August, November and December, 2014, the Army band will present various programmes to commemorate the “Shimla Celebrates” event.
