This may come as a complete surprise for travelers but music systems are officially banned in all taxis and commercial vehicles in Himachal Pradesh.
Owing to a high accident rate of vehicles in the state involving drivers fiddling with the music systems while driving, Himachal Pradesh government has banned installing and usage of music system in yellow plates taxis and all commercial vehicles.
Himachal Pradesh has one of the highest road accident incidents which mainly involving the buses. Mostly the accidents had happened when the drivers lost control of the buses when simultaneously changing music CDs while driving.
Taxis get challaned for using music systems in the vehicle. Though the rule is good in terms of security but is a dampener for tourists on an holiday traveling long journey without any entertainment system in the vehicle.
This is one rule which is enforced quite strictly by the police as it concerns the safety of the tourists traveling in the state. Due to frequent checking and subsequent challans, music systems have been removed by majority of the taxi operators.
Don’t be surprised if your taxi operator tells you that there are no music systems in the car. Better to bring your own i-pads and other music accessories along.
