Manali remained closed on Friday, September 23, 2011 as the residents and the businesses protested against poor civic conditions in the town. All shops and restaurants remained closed protesting against the poor condition of The Mall Road in the town.
Manali town is full of debris these days as the Himachal Pradesh Govt. in the name of facelifting the town have dug up the town but later have failed to finish the work and remove debris from the city center.
Tourists in Manali faced a tough time during the day as all shops and restaurants remained closed. Tourists could be seen wandering the Manali town in search of food.
Manali traders association came out in the town with full strength and shouted slogans against the government during the protest. They later sent a memorandum to the government demanding clearing of debris from the main town within three days. They also demanded repairing of road near Rohtang Pass which has become a permanent bottle neck while reaching Rohtang Pass.
Road condition in Himachal Pradesh is pretty bad owing to a very active monsoon season. Major national highways connecting Shimla and Manali are full of pot holes due to Himachal Pradesh government apathy.
