HRTC, (Himachal Road Transport Corporation) is the main transport provider when traveling in Himachal Pradesh. HRTC connects Himachal Pradesh with almost entire Northern Indian cities of Chandigarh, New Delhi, Gurgaon, Dehradun, Ludhiana, Jullandhar, Amritsar, Jammu and Katra.

HRTC operates mainly three types of bus service

♦ VOLVO buses

♦ Deluxe buses

♦ Ordinary buses

HRTC VOLVO Bus service

HRTC operates it’s own VOLVO bus service from New Delhi to Shimla, Manali and Dharamshala. Himachal Roadways was the first one to operate VOLVO buses in entire Northern India. The buses are run and maintained by HRTC. There is no connectivity of inter city VOLVO buses within Himachal Pradesh.

The VOLVO fare between important cities is:

Delhi ISBT to Shimla                   : Rs. 782/

Delhi ISBT to Manali                   : Rs. 1125/

Delhi ISBT to Dharamshala         : Rs. 995/

HRTC Deluxe Bus Service

HRTC operates non AC and AC Deluxe bus service. The AC bus service is listed as TATA AC bus service on HRTC website. These Deluxe buses also connect Delhi with all major towns of Himachal namely Shimla, Kullu, Manali, Dharamshala and Chamba.

There is a dedicated Deluxe AC bus service available between Chandigarh to Manali.

The first bus leaves Chandigarh at 8.30 am and reaches Manali at 6.20 pm. The second Deluxe bus leaves Chandigarh at 8.40 pm in the evening and reaches Manali at 6.30 am.

HRTC Ordinary Bus Service

HRTC operates a fleet of ordinary buses and these buses connect Himachal with every nook and corner of the state. Oridnary buses ply as far as to Tanakpur on Nepal border and connects the state with Dehradun, Haridwar, New Delhi, Gurgaon,Chandigarh, cities of Punjab, Jammu and Katra. These buses are non AC 3x 2 buses. The ordinary bus service plys within the state and connects all major towns.

HRTC also operates Semi Deluxe buses which are basically non AC ordinary buses but have 2×2 sitting option with push back seats. The fare in these buses is higher by Rs. 20/ than the ordinary buses.

HRTC Time Table

HRTC website has a time table of all buses plying with in and outside the state. The timetable though not absolutely perfect provides necessary information aboute routes and timings of buses plying between all major cities.

The official website of  HRTC  is http://www.hrtchp.com which displays the time table of all buses. One can find many sites in Google search with the name HRTC but they do not represent HRTC in any way.

HRTC Online Booking

HRTC provides online booking facility of all VOLVO, Deluxe AC and selected ordinary routes on it’s website http://www.hrtchp.com Entire booking is done online and one can also choose the desired seat number. The ticket can be printed online.

The bookings can be made by paying through VISA/MASTER Credit Cards or HDFC, AXIS, SBI, Karur Vysya Bank Visa debit cards.

Apart from Online booking, HRTC also offers booking facilities one month in advance at it’s booking counters. These booking counters presently only issue tickets for buses leaving from that particular city. This facility is available at Shimla, Dharamsala, Kangra, Palampur, Mandi, Kullu, Manali, Chamba, Chandigarh, Haridwar & Delhi.

There are two booking counters in Shimla and Delhi. At Shimla, the counters are at the main ISBT and at The Mall next to Himachal Tourism Office. At Delhi one can book tickets at ISBT Kashmiri Gate and at Himachal Bhawan near Mandi House.
