Himachal Pradesh state transport (HRTC) buses remained off road today within and out side the state causing inconvenience to the public and tourists alike.
Employees of HRTC brought the entire fleet of 1900 buses to halt from midnight on Tuesday. No HRTC bus is operating today within and outside the state.
Employees have been demanding work to rule, an 8 hour shift duty as due to paucity of manpower in HRTC they have to work overtime and no over time is being paid to them. They are also demanding regularization of contractual employees after 3 years of service and converting HRTC into Roadways.
Buses of neighboring states from Haryana and Punjab also did not enter Himachal in support of the demands of HRTC employees. While HRTC operates 1900 buses private operators have 2800 buses in the state.
Traffic was normal on roads today as private buses, vehicles and taxis plied normally.
